Learn to really love and accept yourself - warts and all - common statement

Modern religions seem to condemn self love, but my question to them is this - "what did Jesus Christ mean when he said "love your neighbour as yourself".?"  Love yourself in a self-full way - not in a selfish way.  It feels and is different.
